In der Residenz Würzburg filmte M. Thyes das berühmte spätbarocke Decken-Fresko von Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. Malerische, taumelig-drehende Filmsequenzen bilden die Grundlage einer animierten Video-Collage. Tiepolo's katholischer Himmel wird nach und nach von Planeten, Sternen, Galaxien erfüllt. Wissenschaft und Technik entwickeln sich, die menschliche Produktion nimmt zu: Hochhäuser und Kraftwerke ersetzen Tiepolo's Händler, Künstler und Handwerker. Die Bauten ragen hoch in den Himmel, verstellen den Blick darauf, bis schließlich die Dampfwolke eines Kühlturms die Gestirne fast zudeckt. Das christliche und euro-zentrische Bild von Erde und Himmel wird erweitert, bereichert, aktualisiert. Aber das moderne Wissen um die unendlichen Weiten des Universums führt (gesamt-gesellschaftlich betrachtet) nicht zu einer geistigen Erweiterung: Zu sehr beschäftigt uns das komplizierte Leben in unserer Welt voller Waren, Bauwerke, Transport- und Kommunikationsmittel.

At the Wurzburg Residenz, M. Thyes recorded the famous 18th century ceiling fresco by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. Painterly, gyratory video sequences are the basis for an animated video collage. Tiepolo's catholic sky/heaven is slowly filled with planets, stars, and galaxies. Science and technology are developing, human production on earth increases: High-rises and power plants replace Tiepolo's merchants, artists, and craftspeople. The buildings reach to the sky and hide the view on it. Eventually, the smother of a cooling tower conceals the stars. The christian and europe-centric view of the world (earth and sky/heaven) is augmented, enriched, updated. But our modern knowledge of the infinite universe doesn't lead to a broader mind (looking at societies in general). We are too busy with our complicated lives in our environment full of goods, buildings, means of transport and of communication.
